INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM

An eight level track for non-English speaking students who wish to improve their English skills.Students will learn the various components of the English language with particular focus on skills and language components useful for functioning comfortably in everyday, business, and academic settings.Courses include speaking, listening comprehension, writing (phrases, sentences and grammar) and reading. Take advantage of this wonderful and affordable opportunity! Each level can be completed in nine weeks.

LEVEL I

Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of English. Beginning with the alphabet, They will then learn how to correctly write and pronounce basic words common in everyday usage. Emphasis is placed upon survival skills, phonics, and the functional comprehension and application of everyday English. Prerequisite: none

LEVEL II

A beginner level designed for students who already have a grasp of the English fundamentals.Emphasis is placed on vocabulary expansion and the acquisition of comprehension, pronunciation, and other verbal skills necessary to function in a variety of basic practical settings.
Prerequisite: Completion of Level I

LEVEL III

A low-intermediate level geared toward students who possess basic conversational skills.Students will continue to build vocabulary and other skills pertinent to both new and familiar practical contexts. Prerequisite: Completion of Level II

LEVEL IV

An intermediate level that increasingly focuses on more colloquial words and phrases, tone, the paragraph, sentence structure, and the communicative skills pertinent to a range of academic, vocational, and everyday scenarios. Prerequisite: Completion of Level III

LEVEL V

Students will explore English content and skills in a number of academic, vocational, and everyday contexts. Although they will continue receive a large amount of new input and sharpen their comprehension skills, special attention will begin to be paid to the spoken and written language. Students will begin to explore the basic essay, formal/informal language, and style. Prerequisite: Completion of Level IV

LEVEL VI

A high-intermediate level designed to equip students with the language skills necessary for beginning advanced academic preparation. Emphasis is placed on tone, style, a systematic understanding of advanced grammar concepts, and the development of abstract and critical thinking skills. Prerequisite: Completion of Level V

LEVEL VII

An advanced level that continues to develop student proficiencies in all core skills, but increasingly focuses on writing , style, colloquial language and other skills needed for successful communication in various advanced settings. Prerequisite: Completion of Level VI

LEVEL VIII – (Program Completion Class)

A mostly academic preparation level geared mainly toward students who demonstrate a high level of English proficiency and have aspirations of succeeding academically. Special attention is paid to test-taking strategies, fluency, and the continued development of students’ abstract, analytical and critical thinking skills in various academic and vocational contexts.
Prerequisite: Completion of Level VII

TOEFL (Program Completion Class – (Optional))

An academic preparation level designed for students who demonstrate a high level of English proficiency and specifically wish to take the TOEFL test. Emphasis is placed TOEFL strategies, fluency, and the continued development of students’ abstract, analytical and critical thinking skills within the context of the TOEFL test.
